Fruitful collaboration between the SAGWRI and the University of Padua, Italy is rewarded with the Assoenologi prize!
In 2019, Dr Alberto de Iseppi (then PhD student at the University of Padua, Italy) visited the SAGWRI for 6 months as part of a collaboration between Dr Matteo Marangon, one of his supervisors and Prof Benoit Divol. His research focused on the extraction of mannoproteins from yeast lees collected at the end of alcoholic fermentation and their impact on wine properties. From his hard work, one scientific article was published (De Iseppi et al. 2021). After presenting the outcome of his study at the Enoforum web conference last February, Alberto was awarded the Assoenologi prize. Our sincere congratulations to Alberto, who is now following up on the results of his PhD as postdoctoral fellow in Padua.
This successful collaboration continues with the on-going research study of Carla Snyman who is registered at both Universities (Padua and Stellenbosch) for a joint PhD degree and we hope that more projects and students will follow.
